Around Town With Amanda Jenks

What could be more exciting than Fashion Week in the Big Apple! There's always something new to see, celebrities everywhere, and excitement in the air. This year was no exception, with fabulous collections, new colors, and new directions in style. It's an amazing world of talent, veteran designers and newcomers alike.

Who did I like? I loved the sexy and sophisticated collection from Yigal Azrouel, featuring sleek looking for women and macho guys. His designs are very cosmopolitan, and oh so sheik. Another high mark for me was Anna Sui, because her stuff is so much fun. She's totally cool and funky, in a freestyle sixties kind of way. I just love, love, love her line.

Thankfully, one of the changes in the fashion world is the movement away from the ultra-skinny. It started with the Madrid ban against stick thin models, and has been gaining momentum in an effort to promote a healthier version of fashion role models. Sarah McConnell from Events & Every Day Catering has taken an approach to the industry's new focus on nutrition, with Events & Every Day's new mini-sandwich collection. A smash success with the top runway models at Fashion Week, Sarah's platters featured a mouthwatering selection of sandwiches made on mini-breads. These cute and delicious sandwiches (each just a couple of bites worth) were irresistible to the runway talent, who were soon comparing notes on the rosemary grilled chicken, imported prosciutto with fresh mozzarella, and Maryland crab cake sandwiches. "Our fashion week menus are in keeping with our kitchen's approach to nutrition and cuisine, Keeping the Healthier You in Mind," explained Sarah." When I see a Fashion Week model going back for seconds, I know we've been successful."

Fashion Week 2007 was great. It was impossible to see everything, but wow, did I love what I saw! If you want to see a great recap of Fashion Week's designers, fashions and events, take a look at the fantastic coverage on New York Magazine Online at http://www.nymag.com/fashion.

Speaking of eating and fashion, it's time to put on my latest outfit from the Nike collection, and get myself to the gym.

Ciao For Now,

Amanda
